Andrew Bobbin

Growing up with racehorses in county NSW, Andrew always intended on having a career in racing although it took a little longer to come about than he first thought. For five years after finishing high school, Andrew mixed working in television production with playing Rugby League, which led to an appearance in the NRL with St George Illawarra.

After this, television became his career focus landing him in London where he worked for the international broadcaster CNN for 10 years. Assignments took him to almost 50 countries from Iraq during the war to the hills of Hollywood.

One of Andrew’s regular gigs followed the international horse racing circuit around the globe, putting together a monthly racing show with Matt’s sister, Francesca.

Upon returning to Australia Andrew chased up that career in racing at Gai Waterhouse's Sydney operation, taking in all the wisdom he could from the great lady. As Matt's right hand man, Andrew is a bit of an allrounder - he keeps the barn moving in the morning and then contributes with both administrative and hands-on duties throughout the day.

Sarah Field

With racing in her family Sarah was raised on the back of a horse in Malmsbury, about an hour from Ballarat, where from age 15 she started riding track work at Kyneton Racecourse. Matt had heard of Sarah’s riding abilities and tracked her down. His recruitment strategy went to plan and Sarah has been a full-time rider at Cumani Racing ever since.

Sarah will forever hold the honour of strapping our first city winner, Show A Star, Sarah rides in the mornings, works in the stable of an afternoon and has aspirations of being an apprentice jockey.

Kristy-Lee Heron

As a staff members flatmate, Kristy saved the day when we were short staffed one Sunday morning by coming in to help out as a stablehand. With no prior experience she took to horses like a duck to water and has since become a fulltime employee..

Originally from Casterton in country Victoria, Kristy has qualifications in Aged Care and Disabilities but has put that on the backburner to concentrate on a career with racehorses. An animal lover at heart, her dog Mabel, a Schnoodle, is never far from her side.

Diana Proctor

The closure of former champion trainer Peter Moody’s operation meant some highly skilled horse people were looking for a new job and we were lucky to gain Diana, one of his ex-employees.

Growing up in the Ballarat area, Diana welcomed the move home when joining us as a stablehand after almost two years at Moody’s Caulfield stable.

Diana has been around horses her life. As a child she was a regular on the showing circuit where she presented pretty ponies and regularly brought ribbons home. Nowadays a brood mare, a thoroughbred and a Connemara pony keep her busy on her property just outside of Ballarat.

Philip Westbrook

When looking for someone to do our books it seemed too good to be true when Philip Westbrook applied for the role.

Not only a qualified accountant with 25 years experience in public practice, Philip, a Ballarat local, is also a lifelong racing fan!

The father of four and grandfather of three lists his best racing experience as being at Flemington the day Black Caviar made it 10 wins from 10 in the 2011 Newmarket Handicap, with the 1977 Cox Plate winner Family of Man his all-time favourite horse.

Philip's most surprising moment on a racecourse came in 1988 when superstars Vo Rogue and Bonecrusher we expected to fight to the Australia cup, only to see Dandy Andy knock them off at the ripe old odds of 125/1.

Gary Phillips

Dublin born and bred, Gary had aspirations to become a jockey at an early age. After completing his apprenticeship in Ireland and later in England, Gary took an opportunity to work in Dubai. He joined Team Cumani in September 2016 and is a valuable asset to daily track work giving Matt great insight into how the horses are going.
