WETAKEMANHATTAN is working his way around the tracks of Victoria, writing his name, staking his claim, with wins at Bendigo, Pakenham and now Warrnambool.

The 4YO gelding by Manhattan Rain from Montjeu mare Modave (NZL) did not race until a 3YO in late December 2017. He won on debut. Today his overall record stands at 8 starts (3-2-0), a reward for patience. Today was his fourth run for his 4YO season that began with a mid December fifth over the pipe-opener 1300m at Warrnambool; then straight to Flemington on New Year’s Day for a sound effort over a mile; three weeks later to a grand second at Moonee Valley over that distance; and then today’s step up to 1700m at BM70 for 3YO+ brought a clear cut victory.

Dean Holland was up today and rode the perfect race. From a wide gate, he allowed the horse to stride out without urging, take the lead and cross to the rail. From the 800m a challenger swept up outside them but Dean cleverly kept enough pace on to not allow that horse to take the rail but remain economical in expending energy before the home straight, where the fight was on from all sides. WETAKEMANHATTAN relished the battle and won with 1.3L in hand.

His owners, the Riddell family, now have a furnished, consistent and reliable, lovely horse that will continue to bring them much pleasure. We thank them for entrusting his career to Cumani Racing.
