Four-year-old mare NO REWARD returned to Pakenham Park following her mid-September win there over 1000m on the Polytrack – this time under lights and on turf and stepped up to a benchmark 64 over 1200m. In another hard-fought go, the masterful hand of Damien Oliver in the saddle positioned her perfectly on the rail, settled back and biding their time. In the home straight this lovely mare surged through when a gap presented and toughed it out gamely in a blistering time next only to the fastest of the night by 0.06 of a second.

On the line we all held our breath! Even Damien was unsure what the result would be … the video angle was slightly askew and it looked for all the world we’d not get the nod. But the judge’s margins were clear, 0.1L and 0.2L. What a big thrill for all and a great night out for her owners. She’s building stats to belie her name, the 17 starts for 3-2-2 have in fact been quite rewarding.
