From the first crop of War (More Than Ready from Deedra [Zabeel x Joie Denise]), 3YO homebred gelding OURLORDOFWAR won at his second lifetime start in a half-head tussle, but with a further 2 lengths to the third placegetter. In an 1100m maiden for 3YOs and up at Hamilton, he was given an outstanding and understanding ride by Linda Meech from barrier 7 of 8 runners to guide him in a fast and free effort.

Brought along patiently by the stable, Linda reported post race that he was “terrific” yet still “raw, running willy-nilly and [perhaps] on fear”. How grateful we are to this brilliant jockey who just yesterday notched her 50th win – so early in the season. She kindly and astutely nursed OURLORDOFWAR to give him a pleasant experience and build his confidence that running is fun, not scary.

Thanks too go to his happy group of owners headed by John and Robyn Booth for their support. We commiserate with them that the gelding’s 11yo dam Unknown Lady (by Undoubtedly, 2005 winner of the Blue Diamond Stakes-Gr. 1) and a sprinter herself, lost her life less than three short weeks ago. May her son fly her battle flag well into the future.
