Wow! In an oh-so-memorable space of 28 hours – and 280-odd kilometres apart – owners Kevin & Prue Riddell family of Rolsworthy Pastoral have had their colours flown by two winners prepared by Cumani Racing. The latest being their fabulously talented DUNLANI (Dundeel x Teralani [Danehill Dancer]).

This 3YO filly’s classy previous 2L win was in October in a Ballarat 1600m 3YO+ fillies and mares at set weights. Three weeks later she was tested at 1850m and despite being tightened for room in the last 50m, she ran 0.75L third but we knew then that a step up in distance would suit. Given 11 weeks of R&R, she warmed up with a mile at Pakenham where she was asked to settle and then work home. Then two weeks later, here she was, the only 3YO in the BM64, giving nothing else a chance when well ridden by Jordan Childs over the feted 2040m of Moonee Valley at a rousing Friday night meeting. Oh the cheers!

As mentioned in her previous winning story, it stands repeating that her dam is a full sister to $3.4 million stakeswinner PRIVATE STEER, the Champion 3YO Filly in Australia 2002-2003 and producer herself. DUNLANI is mapping well to be a coveted broodmare herself one day. She has given us every indication that an autumn classic is within her range . . . AJC Oaks (April); SA Oaks (May); Queensland Oaks (May)? We’ll take a deep breath now and let tonight’s euphoria subside.
